Well after what I wrote before, I've just seen an M-kitted 1 series and have to admit, it did look pretty okay-ish. And I'd agree that BMW's engines are easily better than VW's. Hmmm, maybe these Volkswagens aren't as good as I thought they were...

Considered the 1 series,I had one as a courtesy car when my Z4 was at the stealers and they drive superbly, well balanced with great grip and feedback but they are smaller and the looks aren't as good.  BMW engines are great...the Z4 3.0 had 265bhp and averaged 32mpg in the 18 months I had it...not so good are the run flat tyres

Not as good in what way? You've not told us anything really.

I'll tell you - the bit where you dont actually explain what's not as good. You gave me Clarkson's opinion where is your own?

which is why I said "this will help". Instead of "here is my opinion".

I just cant be bothered to write it all down. Whilst I do like the 130i (looks included) its just not special enough. rear is far too cramped. Expensive to service. 4wd is more useable. interior is great quality but you have to pay big money for the toys.

The only thing I envy the 1 series for is its RWD.

Why?  Even with RWD, the 1 series understeers like a fat bird in a sauna!   BMWs 'handling' claims are so overrated!
