Incase you aren't aware of the situation with my White mk6 GTI check out my other two posts calling White GTI owners....
Today I took my one month 700 mile old White GTI back and received a FULL refund!!
Having had trouble with the look of the White paint from day one I eventually had the car back on Saturday morning.... Looking pretty good.
However, Sunday morning (in the sunlight) I could see every panel of the car covered in fine scratches and swirl marks.
made the call yesterday morning and was "offered" within about 5 minutes, a full refund as the manager stated that he didn't think he'd ever be able to get the car in the mint condition I expected!
So, a note to all White GTI owners - if you are not happy with your paint finish.... Don't stand for them fobbing you off... I got my money back and was also offered a brand new replacement (didn't want any other colour and would not risk the White again)!!
-
Glad you've finally been sorted out.
What are you going to go for now? It seems you've been through a lot of hassle to just give up on the GTI!
-
Sounds like the dealer did the right thing in the end.
I have to say I'm starting to worry about my DBP scheduled for the end of Nov with all the rejects I'm hearing about at the mo
Hope you get sorted with another Mk6 or something else
-
Sounds like your dealer already has a buyer lined up :lipsrsealed:
So whats next???
-
Thank's guys...!
And as for what's next... I just don't know!!
Maybe an R20... But I was pushed to pay the price for my GTI with the options I had and having looked at the german site with the 33,000€ price tag...!!! There's no way I can afford a £30,00+ motor!!!
Looked at the leon Cupra and the civic type R...!! Any suggestions???

Er, GTI in another colour? My tornado red is spotless and gorgeous.

The Leon Cupra is a nice car. My friend has one and it drives and handles pretty well. You can also get a fully specced one for the same cost as a basic GTI. The only problem is that once you've sat in a GTI, the interior of the Leon just looks and feels dirt cheap.
Judging by your other 2 alternatives I'm guessing its a 'hot hatch' car that you're after?
I'm afraid I'd struggle to recommend anything other than a Golf, as I'm kind of in the same situation at the moment (waiting to buy) and there is nothing else I can think of! I've been round HEAPs of garages and test driven most hot hatches that they have to offer. Focus ST, Astra VXR, Leon Cupra, Subaru Impreza, Renault Clio Cup, Megane Sport (fat ar$ed one!), Audi S3, Civic Type R... and I can't find anything that compares in quality and drivability to my old Edition 30!!

Agree, do like the mk6 in Tornado Red

Having had a Deep pearl black Scirocco this is a hell of a lot easier to keep clean!
-
Glad that you got sorted and stuck to your guns.
Gossa's tornado red does look the biz I must admit.

Why thank you! I must say it isn't so shiny today! It needs some love this weekend, full claying, polishing, waxing and taxing.....

Therein lies the problem - you won't find anything that compares, so you'll need to compromise after a Golf :afro:
IMO, if it was a straight choice between CTR and Leon, I'd plump for a Civic on the 19" alloys
Have you looked at an Octavia vRS? The estate - especially in blue - is a bit of a sleeper. I like 'em.

It only looks cleaner because it does not show the dirt up,it is still dirty
-
Yes Simon but with the black even after a full days cleaning, polishing etc, after 2 minutes you can see sh1te on it. The red looks clean even when it's dirty but when it's clean, it looks showroom clean.....

the very reason I opted for red, and saving the cost of metallic!
-
Never had a black car before and always wanted one, guess its going to look scruffy most of the time then
Carbon is very nice, nearly ordered that first.
-
Black is one of the best looking colours when its clean - but its the hardest to keep.
Within a couple of minutes of polishing it, the dust starts settling, and it starts looking dirty again.
I had 3 black cars in a row - and unless I was buying one from a showroom that I couldn't choose the colour of - I'd never have black again!
My last one was Steel Grey - that was fairly simple to keep clean looking. The best colour is silver as it looks clean all the time... so I think I may go silver this time!!

My Silver MK2a Punto would testify to this... Used to be able to hoover the interior and leave the bodywork all winter!

Once you go black you never go back

£15241 a 18.5% discount from drivethedeal at the moment too i see. Not bad fro the price!

Look, colour choice is a matter for the individual who is purchasing the car and no one on this forum should be telling someone else that their colour is better because of this reason or another. I wanted black because I like it, couldn't care less if it looks dirty or not - I love it. Gossa went for red because that was his colour choice and Kev went for white because he fancied that, at the end of the day we all make our own choices because we can!! so get off trying to score points by slagging someones pride and joy.

I can't see anyone posturing here... Are we not all just sharing experience and opinion here? Chill man, ETTO :afro:
Feck, I don't even own the colour i liked best.....
Blue if anyone gives a stuff

Errr... Take a step down off your high horse!
There is not a single black / red/ white / silver is sh1t comment in this thread - so I don't know what you're problem is?
A few people have simply commented on why they prefer one colour over another for keeping clean. The original topic is about marks on a white car - and it seems to have progressed a bit from there.
Personally I think black looks amazing, but is a b1tch to keep clean. The red car above looks fantastic, and I love white cars too... but I'm likely to go with silver as I don't have the time or facilities to wash my car every week like I used to.
I don't see how saying black is hard to keep clean is slagging it off? Its stating a fact that 99% of people who have ever owned a black car will agree with. If that offends you, then I appologise!

Missus' A3 is black and I agree.
Sheesh, some of these MKVI'ers are hard work
-
Black is a bugger to keep clean but I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED
-
Crap, I've gone from Reflex Silver to Black

Hi all...
As an ex MkV Golf GTI owner in pearl black I can say it was a pain in the butt to keep clean, but when clean it looked the dogs dangles...
Hard work, plenty of wax and plenty of spare time was what was needed...
I changed my car some months ago and went for white, I too had sleepless night wondering if I'd chosen the right colour.
I'm well pleased I did as I and others think my colour choice was the right one and if I'd bought a MkVI Golf GTI I'd of gone with the same colour....
This is what my car looks like after nearly 3 weeks of not been cleaned...

This is what it looked like when it had been cleaned...

Also...
Thanks for the heads up on the paint staining issue, I've kept a good eye on mine ,but all seems ok for now....

Spot on, I had a black mk4 which looked fantastic clean but didn't take much to ruin it. My red mk5 doesn't look too bad even when its filthy. Clean vs clean though I prefer black but its hard work :undecided:

My gold Peugeot was amazing for not showing the dirt. Even more so than silver.
I'm going to have to break the habit of a lifetime and start cleaning my car now.
Blue Graphite, by the way, but everybody thinks it's a dark metallic grey.

Does anyone else with a white car come back to find it covered in flies and other bugs?? :undecided:
-
My neighbour has a white car and at night theirs is always full of wee flies on the roof. I think it is the glare off the car when their security light comes on, that attracts them.
-
every one of my cars is a home to flies- the buggers eat my wax

you can't speak the name on some forums, but it starts with Z and ends in l, and its either Ital,Concours, Destiny,Atlantique or Vintage. The more you pay, the more flies !

Yeh...
Park it up under the car port and go back later and there's loads of them....
They even try parking on it when I trying to wash it...

I sometimes find wee flys (just one or two) when I get into the car in the mornings when going to work.
Other than that, no.

Go try a 3 series- if you want petrol a 330i will be as fast as a GTI, and better all round car.
well speccd new GTI is equivalent to an equivalent spec demo 3 series
i'm surprised they gave you your cash back so easily- they do seem to be selling fast, as evidenced by my ETA of 7 months...

330i is a great car, but if you really need a smaller hatchback then golf gti the only way to go. i had to have a car my wife could drive as well, hence anything 3 series sized was ruled out. BMWs cost an arm and a leg to maintain as well.
