I had to wait longer than that for my Mini JCW GP and I couldn't change anything bar choosing the service pack or not - cracking little motor though, was well worth the wait - good times

I was told 10 weeks and that's what I expect for a new car. Nothing more. Admittedly, mine was one of the first ones so it arrive in 6 weeks but I wouldn't wait more than 10 weeks. I'd just go elsewhere.
Remember the popular saying on here - "it's just a Golf".

MK7... Nows that an eyesore.

I still prefer the MK5 for some reason... then again - Being 20 years old I love the madness of the drive whereas the MK6 is a very very refined Golf.

The MK5 is a bit raw...

Not sure why but my dad hasnt even test driven the MK6.

From the pictures, the Mk7 seems to be losing the plot a bit just like the Mk3 focus.

The Mk7 GTI will most probably be available March 2013 onwards in RHD form thus giving the Mk6 GTI a four year cycle.

Mk6 GTI refined? Oooh no, not enough for moi unless the ACC/DCC is in 'comfort mode' for our poxy roads in the UK. 18” wheels on Bridgestones don't help either. I have started driving like a great granny to protect Wolfgang as well as his master!

I have a good feeling that the GTI might arrive a bit earlier than envisaged.

The problem is not build time its supply of parts.
VW basically told there suppliers they were cutting production about a year and a half ago but in mid 2010 they ramped it way up due to schemes like scrappage all round europe, and parts suppliers due to the original cuts by VW started making large cuts themselfs,  closed factories etc. (one in my area for example). This had a knock on effect when VW demanded large amounts again.

Mine took 7 months to arrive it was one of the first very long delayed to build ones of 09 and was suppose to only take 12 weeks that was 2009 to 2010 so looks like nothings has changed.

Ordered mine in October and was told delivery would be March,

This has now changed to delivery in May! 7 months!

Are they still doing this free hire car still? Or have they scrapped that now?

Maybe you'd better get your order in for your mk7 now then, so it may be ready for launch, assuming VW ordered enough parts to design a mk7 in the first place. You could get one with one of those God-awful 1.6 Derv engines.
The 'proper' mk7 Golfs won't be along for a little while longer though, so you may want to risk not getting your order in until summer '11 for one of those.....

i replied in the other thread about the wait but will in here too

i ordered in september '10 and still waiting. got told anywhere upto week 14 of 2011.

i was told that vw produced their annual quota and so stopped production for a while then restarted but with a slower unit output giving orders that were placed in 2010 to complete in 2011. reason for this was to make sure the quota was achieved in 2011.
