Sales figures ? Just curious
« on: 03 January 2019, 15:58 »
Out of interest, how many Golf GTi's  and R's are getting sold on average in the UK per yr. The car is well into its 5th / 6th yr wondering if things are starting to slow down now that the mk8 should be out sometime this yr or early next.

How did the Mk7 compare to previous generations.

Not interested in the 1.4's and all that. Just how well the Gti and R's do, considering the hot hatch market is pretty competitive.

At an overall model level, the top 10 UK new vehicle registrations in November and 2018 year to date (source; Polodriver.com). First figure is the number of new registrations in November, the figure in brackets is the Jan-Nov figure;

1 Ford Fiesta: 5,193 (90,173, 1st)
2 Volkswagen Golf: 4,678 (60,605, 2nd)
3 Mercedes-Benz A-Class: 4,104 (39,243, 8th)
4 Nissan Qashqai: 3,195 (47,937, 4th)
5 Mini: 3,170 (40,254, 6th)
6 Volkswagen Polo: 3,115 (40,221, 7th)
7 Ford Focus: 3,068 (46,573, 5th)
8 Vauxhall Mokka X: 2,778
9 Kia Sportage: 2,731 (34,069, 10th)
10 Vauxhall Corsa: 2,594 (48,651, 3rd)

VW’s sales figures in Q4 will have been affected by their late completion of WLTP testing, with very few models having gained WLTP type approval as at September, meaning they had very few new cars to sell.

Equivalent 2017 full year figures (source; SMMT);

1. Ford Fiesta: 94,553
2. Volkswagen Golf: 74,605
3. Ford Focus: 69,903
4. Nissan Qashqai: 64,216
5. Vauxhall Corsa: 52,772
6. Vauxhall Astra: 49,370
7. Volkswagen Polo: 47,855
8. Mini: 47,669
9. Mercedes Benz C Class: 45,912
10. Mercedes Benz A Class: 43,717

Manufacturers will usually offer various incentives to help keep sales buoyant as a model nears the end of its life, such as producing a limited edition run-out model, increasing the standard spec, low or zero rate finance, free servicing etc, etc. VW discontinuing some models is also likely to have had an impact on sales volumes (e.g. stopping production of 3 door Golf R and making the R with DSG transmission only, stopping production of the non-performance version of the Golf GTI).

2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl
