I had to order lane assist to get DLA. Both systems use a camera which is installed on the windscreen in front of the rear view mirror. You can see the camera opening if you stand in front of the car.
Don't confuse DLA with Dynamic Curve Lighting which is fitted as standard.
I also would not worry about DLA. I find it a quirky system. See below...
my dla is great, seems to be just as quick as a normal person would be.. just push the stalk forward and jobs a good one, with me being disabled having dla means i no longer have to drive at night using just dip so thumbs up here..
Same here - And it's quite mesmerising watching it do its stuff. Very pleased, not at all slow and I'd certainly order it again.
Don't get me wrong, I like my Dynamic Light Assist. However...
... I see it as a semi automatic system with much room for improvement. It will blind drivers sitting at junctions. It will blind lorry drivers. It switches off when it is raining. It appears to confuse other drivers.
I used to try and be courteous and dip before corners. This resulted in me being frequently flashed! Now I just allow the system to blind the other driver for a split second so they know my car had dipped.
I certainly wouldn't recommend this current system for my wife's car. It's just not 'there' yet. However...
My sister has Mercedes multibeam on her car. It looks like a much more advanced next gen system. Audi now have the Matrix HD system. Hopefully we will see something similar fitted to the Mk8 Golf.
Edit: when DLA is working properly it is really, really good.
