So no one knows about the fuel temp sensor? Seems mine is missing some one has replaced the pipe and left the sensor out. Need to know what it dose will it affect mpg not knowing the temperature of the fuel returning to the tank

Are you sure it's not the coolant temp sensor

Of course I'm sure the coolant temp sensor is a green 4 pin sensor. That controls the temp gauge and the glow plugs on a pd engine. The fuel return line has a fuel temp sensor in it mine has been removed and the plug left hanging. When you scan it it shows a fault for open circuit to fuel temp sensor as it's missing. Car drives fine no warning lights I just need to know what it dose? I'm guessing it helps adjust the fueling as diesel changes viscosity with temperature

it usually sits in the return line after the tandem pump. The ecu uses the signal from the sensor to adjust fuelling, it also impacts the mpg display in the dash. When the ecu sees the sensor missing/faulty it ignores the signal and reverts to a base temperature to keep things running. Odd that you don't have an engine light on for it...

Thanks for the reply I'll get one fitted back in. But no I don't have a warning light but dose show an error if you scan it.
