why do most insurance companies ask if you have had in motoring convictions in the last 5 years if the points only stay on for 3. If you do the crime you do the time but insurance campanies seem to drag it out for another 2 years, is this fair or right?

Im sure i have answered this question before somewhere........

Minor offences such as speeding etc only count for 3years but more serious offences such as drink driving, dangerous driving etc can stay on your licence for much longer hence insurers ask for offences in the last 5 years to make sure any such as these are disclosed. Usually (certainly with us) any minor offences that are disclosed over 3yrs ago but within the 5 are although recorded, automatically disregarded.
