The 18yr old we have in work was paying £1400 a year for a Nissan Almera just switched to a Focus 1.6 and it has gone up to £1700 I cannot see the point myself.

people saying he'd kill himself if he got a mk5 gti for his 1st car is utter rubbish!! a car will travel as fast as the driver puts his foot down not all 17yr olds are mad loonies! when i past my test i had a tuned mk2 fiesta XR2 with a 200bhp rs turbo lump in it (16yrs ago now) then when i was 18 got a 4x4 sapphire cossie which was running various power stages (270bhp,330bhp,400bhp then 450bhp) upto when i was 21 and im still here! oviously if he drives like a tw4t then he's got it coming but if he had a 1.0 micra and drove like a tw4t he'd still prob kill himself wont he??

Mind if I ask how you'd plan to fund this? :)

i think u shud get yourself a sorted mk1 or 2. super cheap and you will end up loving it to bits. i sold my vr6 last year (when i was 18, paying about 70% of my wages per month on insurance) because i realised that spendin that amount of money was a true waste. get youself a stinker and i guarentee u will love it 10 times as much as the mk5. your first car should always be a good ol' memory of a sh!t heap. I can also assure you in a couple years time when you look back on it, or move out of home n ma n pa wont help you out, you will wish you had saved the dough up. i have been there, and wish i had the £3000 i wasted on the vr to spend on other things.

despite this, havin a mint motor at 18 is the sh!t, i was the coolest kid on the block with my vr
