Was wondering if you could all help me out. Just had my first puncture in the new car after under 3000 miles (just my luck). Does anyone have any experience of how much VW will charge for and to fit new P Zeros? And whether it’s worth getting it done somewhere else?

Oh and from reading everyone’s raves about the Michelin Supersports. Potentially a better option?
If it cannot be repaired...

Golf Owners Manual -

New Tyres - page 281

- All 4 wheels must be fitted with tyres of the same type, size and the same tread pattern.
- Always replace tyres on an axle-by-axle basis at the very least.

I mention the above because it is recommended to replace tyres in pairs. This is because a new tyre should not be used beside a worn tyre as they will have different levels of grip. Also different makes and models of tyre will have different levels of grip.

There are people here who would replace both tyres. However, providing the other tyre on the same axle has only done 3000miles and is not noticeably worn - you could purchase another tyre of the same make and model. Then fit them to the rear axle of the car.

Note: this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. Follow it at your own risk.

Someone should have offered that advice to the (very large national) lease company who ran my company cars for the last 25 years.

Got a puncture? Whats the cheapest tyre in stock?

Sure if it was wear then usually the fronts and backs wear the same amount, but any other time, slap whatever on.

At one point on my previous non-Golf I actually had 4 different tyres....

Bloke at work used to fit part worn tyres. When he crashed he blamed the tyres

Useful information about wheels and tyres

Introduction

"Tyres are the most used and most underestimated parts of a vehicle. Tyres are very important as the narrow tyre surfaces are the only contact between the vehicle and the road."

Thanks for your help. Turns out tyre can’t be repaired after taking it to a local tyre specialist. They’re quoting £155 to fit the new P Zeros. Im going to do some shopping around. Does anyone know the actual size of the tyres as I haven’t got the car at the moment? It’s a Mk 7.5 sitting on 19” Brescias. Cheers.

I've always preferred to buy my tyres from the place that I trust to fit them. It might cost a bit more than buying off the internet and taking the tyre to them, however I think they may be a bit reluctant to spent as much time as might be needed to carefully fit and balance a tyre that they are making no money on.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Be very careful with KwikFit - very bad experiences in the past, including trying to say a puncture couldn't be repaired at one branch and another branch 2 miles away repaired it no problems! They are expensive as well.

I've 2 punctures in 3 months on my Mk7.5, last one needed a new tyre as was right on the sidewall.

I'm sure they would get a commision or fitting fee from the tyre seller. Otherwise there would be no incentive for them to be part of the scheme at all.
