Switching off keyless entry when washing the car?
« on: 18 October 2017, 13:26 »
Hi, I have keyless entry on my 7.5 GTi and just wondering if anybody knows how to turn the keyless entry off, as when washing the car you knock the door handles and the doors are opening and closing and mirrors folding in and out all the time?

Just unlock the car, put wipers into service position then put your keys out of range. You only ever put up with the car washing mirror dance once, lol.

I thought it was just me who got pissed off with the opening/closing routine
It's my one and only annoyance with keyless.

Such an obvious answer yet it never occurred to me. I've been suffering the same problem too.

Problem is, I like keeping the keys on my person when I'm out and about washing the car.
Also, I have never once put the wipers in the service position.....probably because I don't know how and can't be arsed reading the manual

Ignition on (no need for engine start) ignition off, swipe wiper stalk down once (slowly).  Wipers move into service position. Get out of car, walk round front side, gently lift wipers off windscreen. Take car keys out of pocket/hand, place securely in house. No mirrors flapping in and out and car prepared properly for cleaning. Wash car.  Place wipers gently back on windscreen, retrieve keys from secure place and lock car.

I put the wipers in the service position then put the keys on the driver's seat. It won't lock with the keys inside. That way I don't have to go get the keys when I put the car back in the garage.
However, do remember to take the keys with you and lock it if you have to go back in the house.
