Xbox recognising games as DVD, problem
« on: 25 November 2010, 17:23 »
My five year old xbox 360 is refusing to play games.  When I put a disc in is says play DVD and then a white screen with the xbox 360 logo appears.  I've done a bit of Googling on this and it could be either the lens needs a good clean (already used a dvd disc cleaner, no joy ) or it could be a fault with the DVD drive itself.

Before I take the thing to bits, have any of you had similar problems and had a successful repair/fix.

Thanks

Jonathan.

i fix 360's and have done a few with this problem.

it could be the laser needs adjusting. how to do this depends on which drive you have

have a look here for ident guide:  http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm

once you know which drive you have, you will need to open your 360 and take the dvd drive top cover off. there are guides on the link above. it is very easy to do.

to adjust the laser you will need a small watchmakers screwdriver and a multimeter to check the resistance.

make sure you do it in very very small adjustments or you risk knackering the drive.

pdf as an example how to do it

any problems, pm me

alternatively give MS a call and £60 later it will have a new drive, new motherboard and new 12 month warranty.

I don't think a semi will give the same results
