Hi There!
« on: 26 April 2010, 10:08 »
Hi There!

My GF has just bought a 1995 MK3 8v GTI and I have signed up here mainly to learn a bit more about the cars as I will be the one looking after it.

I'll post a couple of pics and some details up in a few minutes.

All the best,
John

Seeing as some scumbag twocked our gert's 1997 "India Gold" Corsa (maybe did her a favour) we were on the lookout for a new budget motor for her.

We were looking at modern small engined cars and over the last few weeks we have looked at Corsa's, Puma's, Fiesta's, Escort's, Tigra's you name it.

However this car caught her eye and she fell in love with it as soon as she saw it.

It's a 1995 MK3 8V GTI in metallic blue (anyone know the colour name, never seen another GTI in this colour) bit of a change from what she was initially looking for.

The car is near immaculate barring a small mark on the passenger sill step a very slight scuff on the rear bumper (only saw it because I was told by its current owner) and the alloy wheels have a bit of lacquer bubbling around the valves.

It has a mahoosive folder full of service history and reciepts. It's almost totally standard save for a stainless CAT back exhaust (this has been custom made to replicate the OE exhaust and is very quiet) and a VR6 front splitter. It even still has the factory fitted head unit and genuine VW floor mats.

Despite having 118k on the clock it drives like new and absolutely everything works.

EDIT: IMAGES LOST

We viewed the car a couple of weeks ago and left it as it was one of the first cars we looked at. We drove another lower mileage newer GTI for comparisons sake and TBH it wasn't quite as good as this one.

After fruitlessly looking at other cars we went for another look and made a deal on it.

Long term plans are to sort the sill step, the scuff and eventually refurb the alloys. After that hopefully it will just be regular maintenance and enjoy the car.

welcome... lovely colour... its called Fjord Blue and the code is LR5V

all the best people have that colour mk3

the only thing i would really suggest thinking about is getting a decent suspension on there as the standard handling is shockingly bad.. this will transform your boat car!

looks very well looked after and nice and clean!

ps. if you want an aero rear wiper then let me know http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=115011.0

pps. you have a nice house!

It had all the suspension replaced not too long ago but only with OE kit. The ride is pretty compliant and seems to handle reasonably well. Previous owner had the car aligned when the suspension was done.

Don't have any pics of the scuff yet but it's bad enough not to polish out. I reckon a repaint of the rear bumper will be in order at some point.

Thanks for the offer of the aero wiper but I reckon standard is the way forward with this machine  :nerd:
