I use Bilt-Hamber on the same wheels but I would be interested in your replies as it would work out cheaper.

PS Bilt-Hamber is really good.

If you protect the wheels with gtechniq C5 then there is no need to use anything other than Water to clean the wheels.

It's absolutely fine to use Bilberry Wheel Cleaner on Santiagos or any polished diamond cut wheels. Used it for years on my Mk6 GTI diamond cuts, and any other wheels for that matter.  It's a brilliant wheel cleaner and can be diluted as you wish.  It's PH neutral, not acidic like some wheel cleaners. For regular maintenance washes I use it at a dilution of 1:10 which is effective in removing crap but not stripping protection.  Use it at 1:3 for a more concentrated solution but that will strip wax and some other sealants off, except ceramic coatings.

A squirt on each wheel before your normal wash or at the snow foam stage (if applicable) will bring the dirt of with great ease.  Also brillant on tailpipes.

I second this post.  I have the 18" Austin alloys and when I first had them they would scratch so easy without even trying, I was even using lambs wool mits etc,. However once I coated them a couple months later with GTechniq C5 Wheel Armour I have not seen any obvious new scratches on my wheels. The stuff is expensive and I was unsure about it, but took the plunge and tried some on my wheels.  I have to say I will swear by C5 Wheel Armour now and plan to get the Pretoria wheels off my new Golf R the first day and coat them before anything has a chance of scratching them.

My wheels are so easy to clean once I coated them with C5 Wheel Armour.  Just use soapy water now no special cleaning products.  However you may need to still address the ever so troublesome brake dust with IronX or a similar product on regular intervals as C5 does not stop brake dust, it may just help to prevent it completely ruining the wheels.

Finally got round to getting some VP bilberry due to glowing reviews but now OH has put fear of god into me, he's read the label and says I should be wearing a hazmat suit to use it ... surely not ...if I'm using it in a spray bottle at 1:10 should I be using gloves, goggles?

Safety first and all that! Although I've never bothered and I haven't expired yet....

Ignore your OH.  Used Bilberry for years at a variety of dilutions - neat; 1:3 and 1:8 and 1:10 ratios, no PPE kit (and I have access to it) and no harm to body or mind.  To appease your OH, at most don a pair of nitrile gloves and that will look like you are taking account of H&S aspect.

Thanks Booth11 you've put my mind at rest....looking forward to trying it tomorrow followed by PB sealant, like the idea of the gtechniq but got a nearly full bottle of the PB, will be seeing pink for a few weeks!

You will love it. It's a excellent wheel cleaner, it makes cleaning your wheels a breeze. I tend to spray it on all wheels and tails before I set about doing the snow foam stage. I leave it to dwell while get the pressure washer and snow foam lance ready ect.

It's one of those products that once you've used it your detailing kit won't want to be without it.

It's very effective on wheels and tailpipes, and used at that 1:10 dilution won't strip any protection you have on your wheels.

I do similar to Mr GTD, spray all wheels, wheel arches and tailpipes with Bilberry prior to snow foaming.  Leave it to dwell for a few mins, I then apply snow foam to dry car, and over the top of the Bilberry on the wheels, then everything gets pressure wash rinsed after snow foam has dwelled, whilst I fill up my buckets.

Good luck.

Husband is wrong.  Bilberry is gone to use on diamond cut alloys. Is a non acidic wheel cleaner so not harsh like some wheel cleaners. Best used at a dilution ratio of 1 part Bilberry to 10 parts water, or 1:8.

Yep, that's my name.

I use Gtechniq C2v3 on mine and top it up monthly. You can get coatings such as Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour, Gyeon Q2 RIM, and CarPro DLUX.  These are all ceramic style coatings which are best applied to wheels whilst off the car and need to cure.  They last months and months. So that's an option.  I personally prefer to seal mine monthly and C2v3 does a great job.  If you decide to get Sonax BSD as per the other thread, then that would be great for wheels too.

No, no need to wax on top of the sealant. See my last reply in the Sonax BSD thread as to why wax and BSD are not good partners.  Of course you can do whatever you fancy there's no hard or fast rules, but some sealants and waxes don't bond due to certain types of sealant having nano or polymer bases and wax having organic hydrocarbon base.  Not good bedfellows.

Jeni, I buy the majority of my detailing stuff online from Cleanyourcar.  Try discount code DW05 for a bit of discount.   Other online places I use are Ultimate Finish; Polished Bliss, Slims Detailing.  Also buy some bits from Amazon.

And forgot to answer your other question :  yes C2v3 can be applied straight onto (clean) wheels on the car. It really easy stuff - spray on, leave a few mins, buff off. 2 coats best and will last up to 6 weeks.  Also great on glass too and of course for paintwork, but I prefer waxes to nano sealants on black cars.

^^ It depends what you use it on, and how often.  Whole car, glass and wheels?  Or just select things?  Either way 500ml will last a fair while.

Can I just ask about the C5... I can't remember where or when I read this but I'm sure there was some comment about a Gtechniq wheel product that you couldn't use on machined/diamond cut wheels if they were to be exposed to salted road etc. Does that ring any bells? I like the idea of a ceramic coating to help protect the gloss black parts and make cleaning easier, C5 sounds like a good deal.

No, no bells ringing.  Not heard that at all.  Plenty of people use C5 on diamond cut wheels and all wheels are exposed to salt in the winter months.

Lots of people rate Gyeon Q2 RIM over Gtechniq C5 so take a look at that too.

Just looking online and it was probably this line that was at the back of my mind:

We do not recommend using C5 Wheel Armour on polished, unlacquered rims in countries that salt roads for ice prevention

Both Gtechniq and Gyeon look good to me, it's just having the time to let it cure in the dry
