Golf 1.9 TDI PD camshaft change?
« on: 30 June 2017, 14:20 »
Hi guys,

I have a Golf 1.9 TDI with BXE engine. I bought it last year but I had several issues with it and I start to think that Volkswagen is just no longer the same quality I had thought.
I've heard that there are also problems with Passat 2.0 TDI engines and I don't think I'll purchase VW again.
Mine is a plate 07 and just few months ago we had to change the head gasket along with injectors.
165K on the clock and my mechanic told me that the noise coming from my engine is the camshaft.
He said that we will need to change hydraulic lifters. He said my cam lobes look flattened.

At what mileage these camshafts have to be changed? Is it common with there 1.9 TDI PD engines?

Since I bought this car I just spent the money on and I don't know what to do.

How much does a new camshaft cost? I assume that I will need to change hydraulic lifters and other bits as well?

10 year old car on 165k needing work? Doesn't sound that unusual.

Camshaft related work on mk4/5 TDI engines is common.

I was going to put about darkside development's.
It depends how there looked after to how the cam lobes wear.
Your suppose to use a spexific oil which has a additive to reduce wear on the cam.
If my 160k pd needs acam itll be getting a darkside one. Lifters should also be changed

Thanks guys. Checked it but I've decided to go with a cheaper camshaft kit.
Everything seems to be in it and I would try to keep the cost down.
This is what I purchased yesterday night: https://shop.zedperformance.co.uk/vw-audi-1.9-TDI-PD-camshaft-kit
