1 or 2 din?
« on: 07 November 2006, 22:47 »
Hi Guys,

Im planning on selling my current car to get a mk4 golf. The car i have in mind is a 1998 1.6s 5dr. I was just wondering if the space for the cd player is 1 or 2 din as i haven't managed to get a proper look inside yet.

Cheers

im pretty sure the golf mk4 has a 2 din slot (original equipment), if ya want to fit a 1 din unit you need an adaptor kit , most hifi places have them http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3489.html

i'm pretty certain those adapters are for the MK5

the mk4's are double din but not all models had audio in both slots, my GT TDI had the tape/radio in one and the cd changer in the other this means  i need one of these

if yours only has audio equip in one slot then you can do a straight swap.

Adapter kit not needed. Either go for a double din unit, as suggested, or use the standard fit volkswagen Din sized 'pocket' - a handy slot for cigs/keys/wallet/chewing gum/mobile etc.

Vehicles that have only one unit fitted have them as standard......

I would go for a double din as well, they're usually worth the extra cost - only thing I've found is that they're not all that pretty.
Oh, that and Alpine don't do one around the £400 quid mark, they're all nearly double that! Pah.

that unit cost me £180, its nice and simple, the unit buttons match the red of the dash buttons and the blue glow it has near enough matches the dials too

I bought the iPod controller for another £40 as well, so I can run my iPod and flash memory (USB slot on the front) through it

Well worth the money

i looked at getting an alpine double din but decided £600 odd was going to be a waste as you can get a laptop for similar money and as its only me in the car in the week (home to work and back) having a dvd player is pointless, so went for an Alpine 9955R.

nice, wish I'd had more to spend on a headunit but its being spent on the engine instead
