I drove the 16v out of the garage today just to keep it running and to assess exactly what I wanted for the estate. ..damn I cant believe how much nicer than the TDI it sounds, so much smoother, quieter and refined.

I wish I could keep the valver on the road but it's simply not viable, im saving a fortune in fuel now and dont think I could even go back to the tiny hatchback boot space.

I know I can make the wagon look half decent inside and out, power isn't too difficult to squeeze out of these lumps with a few bolt on goodies either....its just the lack of refinement and agricultural clattering that is currently pissing on my bonfire.
Some serious sound deadening & proofing is going to take place once I get the opportunity to swap the interior over.  In the meantime il be giving it a good service, chucking some 2 stroke oil in the tank and bolting the 16v engine undertray on.

2 stroke oil in the tank? Is that good for injectors?

Won't hear the engine when you get your stereo in :)

Bit of extra dynamat up front and should be a lot quieter :)

Managed to get the following swapped over today - gearknob, headunit, anni smoked front fogs, indicators, headlight switch, aero front wiper blades, black VW grille badge.
Also repaired the broken cable in the drivers door loom for the electric windows, glued the droopy headlining near  the windscreen, new interior light bulb and pulled the ECU out to check the code numbers.

p.s. I think this may as well be moved to the Dub rides section if any mods reading fancy it?

Stereo is in albeit with the standard factory speakers which I'd forgotten just how turd they sound, hopefully il get my components fitted over the weekend.
As for deadening, the plan is to do the entire car once the seats are out whilst paying particular attention to the front foot well, firewall and dash area.
Ive noticed quite a wider than usual gap between the dash and screen which is definitely letting excess engine noise through so I need to investigate whether I can shift the dash backwards slightly or pack it out with some open celled foam or similar.

After some extensive Internet searching on how to quieten down old diesel engines a multitude of threads come up with the positive use of 2 stroke mineral engine oil in the fuel tank, approximately 300ml to a full tank is the general consensus.

That's one ugly motor!
I hope you have some serious plans to pimp that up, it needs a lot of help!
