Winter tyres
« on: 30 October 2018, 17:35 »
Looking for some winter tyres for my GTD. I currently have 19 Brescia rims - 225/35/19 tyres. Just wondering if any other width/profile would fit?

If this would be better suited in a different section could a mod please move.
Thanks :)

Are you planning to fit winter tyres onto your existing Brescia's? Most people that run winters do so with a second set of rims. Otherwise you will require the services of a tyre fitter twice a year. You could change complete wheels yourself.

If you are thinking of swapping tyres, a 235/35/19 would fit, and the extra width would provide a little extra rim protection. However the extra tyre wall height would knock your speedo out ever so slightly.

If it's cheaper tyres you're after, 17's or 18's are obviously a better bet. I have 18's on mine.

Hi. Yes I was just planning on swapping the tyres and putting them on the Brescias rather than spending on rims too. Wouldn’t know where to start with getting right size rims off set etc . The tyre place I use will store my summer tyres ( they do every winter)  just they’ve told me if I wanted 225/35/19 I’d have to get them off line and they will fit /balance for £10 each.
Would 235 put the speedo out much?

As seen here, your speedo will under-read by about 1mph at 70mph.

https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=225&aspect=35&diameter=19&wheelwidth=7.5&offset=51&width2=235&aspect2=35&wheel_size=19&wheel_width=7-5&offset2=51

Do bear in mind though that your insurance company may not like it if you deviate from manufacturers standard spec, and some recommend that winter tyres are at their best on snow with narrower tread as you don't get as much sledging effect.

If you increase tyre width too much you can sometimes get rubbing inside the arches, but for half a centimetre with these you should probably be ok.

Thanks. Just found this showing what tyres I can fit.  What size would be best for winter conditions ? And what’s the min/max that will fit on the Brescia’s?

It is only realistic to either stick with your standard tyre size, or increase the width to 235.

If you go for a narrower tyre i.e. 215, you'll be stretching them to the point you'll have no rim protection. Taller tyre walls i.e 40 or 45 will knock your speedo out, and may rub the underside of the wheel arch, shallower tyre walls will also knock your speedo out the other way and give more uncomfortable ride.

Thank you. I’ll looked at 235 and 225 then.
