Today I have had a rear tyre puncture repaired, the second one in a month the last one was in the other rear tyre both had nails in them  very strange as the car hardly ever goes anywhere and we are anal about keeping it safe. What would you guys be thinking if the same had happened to you ?

Sabotage?

Press PHONE, then SETUP.

Tried that it just mutes what ever is playing

Could it be a Vag Com coding issue?

It sounds like it, if pressing the PHONE button just mutes the radio, the car doesn't know the phone is there.

Look at the bluetooth fitting guide in the Mk6 Maintenance section. There is a very good step by step screen shots of what to do.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

If so thats the guide I followed to install the mic and head unit but this guide refers to fitting a bluetooth module whereas the RNS315 has BT built in

Yes, but the coding should be the same. You have to tell the car that Bluetooth is fitted, otherwise it won't work.
