As Rich said buy genuine I bought cheap ones once and they lasted 2 weeks. but saying that the driveshaft I bought come with both boots and cost less than 2 genuine boots and have lasted ages.

Track rod end is £13 from Eurocarparts I fitted two today, took and hour to fit and to track

Track rod ends are a complete pain in the ass, would definitely take it to a garage for that.  Last time I tried I couldn't get it to come off, required the use of a blow torch to heat the thing up until it glowed red to get it off.  That was on a Golf 3 years younger than mine

Track rods and ends were replaced on Tuesday, £60 at a local garage (not ATS!) and he did a great job.  Gator is turns out is actually fine, it just need a new stap putting onto the end which he did for me.  Took her into National today for wheel alignment (50% off voucher).  So paid £15 to get the alignment sorted, which was apparently veeeery out

Just headed over to Eurocarparts to pick up parts for my yearly service.  They're doing a free oil filter and 25% off.

Picked up the oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and 5l of oil for £26!!
