Title: Bora 2.0 Sport - Nothing special really!
Post by: VR6-Joe on 04 July 2010, 22:14
Yo guys, hope you're all well

Haven't been on the forum in ages as I now have a full time job and by the time I get home I'm too knackered to turn the laptop on!

As some of you know, I went over to the darkside, swapping my 1996 Mk3 Golf CL for a 2003 Saxo VTR. It was purely a money thing as I was bored of the Golf but knew I wouldn't get much for it, whereas the Saxo was worth in the region of £2000. After a week of driving the Saxo I was loving it, it handled well and went like a rocket but lacked German build quality and lacked space inside. I'm a big lad and therefore my knees touched the dash and head touched the roof - not comfortable at all. I waited until I got the V5 back and then it went up for sale. I had put a deposit down on my dads VR6 and then realised I really didn't want to go back to where I started (a 1996 Golf), so I changed my mind and told my dad I'd try and sell it for him instead.

A week later and I was the proud owner of my 12th car. A 2000 X reg Bora 2.0 Sport! It's not the fastest car on Earth but I'm happy with it and I can honestly say I have no intentions of getting rid of it. It has a few mods - 18" Merc wheels, 40mm lowering kit, debadged grill etc.. I'll just let the pics do the talking!

As it stands I only have a couple of little plans. New front splitter would be ideal, US front rubstrip with sidemarkers, tinted headlights of some description and fit a decent headunit + sub
My Golf was so low that I managed to break it every time I drove it so I won't be touching the ride height on this one, especially as I work down an unmade road! Just going to keep it practical/clean/OEM+ .. it already gets a lot of looks as it's unusual to see a modded Bora

I'll update this thread as stuff happens but it's not going to be a full on project like the Golf was as it's already a nice car and feels really luxurious!

Thanks for reading,
Joe

Liking that!

I would try and get thinner spacers though, personally not keen on the wheel sticking past the arch.

Nice to see you back :) Not a fan of the debadged grills and would prefer something VAG for the alloys....But that's just me

Haven't updated this in a while due to breaking my camera and not being able to take pics of my progress :( Took a few up to date pics on my phone though so I've got pics to show you but they're crap quality

First off I split my headlights and painted the outer chrome section black similar to the Mk4 Golf anni headlights

Then I popped to VW and ordered a V6 4motion front valance, took a couple of days to come but was worth the wait :)

Fitted my smoked crystal rear lights and gave the car a good wax

And just a random picture of how it is now

Apart from that.. I've had the windscreen replaced, I've replaced the scuffed front rubstrip and I've replaced all the factory bulbs with bright white LED bulbs (interior/number plate/sidelights/reverse lights)

The only problem I've had with the car since owning it, is the passenger side window regulator, the stupid white plastic clips broke so I plastic welded them back together and haven't had any problems since

All comments welcome :)

looks good buddy. not sure on the debadged grill. rims are growing on me from 5mins ago :D just think the centres need to be lairy, but thats just me :D

maybe a new boot with the spoiler or take it off and plug the holes?? not sure how the bora spoilers are fitted...

like the white LED thing, tis what im doing and headlights mod looks good :)

Cheers mate..

The debadged grill is a bit of a marmite mod.. the only reason its on there is because the factory fitted grill had chrome slats and looked a bit chavtastic lol. I'm on the lookout for a standard indigo blue grill but I'm in no rush.. I've also considered painting the debadged grill blue to match the car but not sure how it would look.
The wheels need a refurb because the lips are badly corroded, although there's no kerbing which is surprising cus they stick out a mile lol. I was just going to get them re-done in the original colour although indigo blue centres and (believe it or not) pink centres did cross my mind. I just think the car is a bit too serious for lairy coloured wheels
As for the spoiler, that's definately staying.. I've actually never seen another Bora with a rear spoiler so I like it because it makes mine look different, plus when you look in the rear view mirror and see the spoiler it reminds you that you're driving a car with a boot

He lives!!!!!

Cars looking good!

The grill is growing on me, don't like it with the bra though. Loving the spoiler though it's subtle and not chavtastic!!

Agreed mate, the black grill and black bra is too much black but the bra serves its purpose as I do a lot of driving on dual carriageways

The spoiler I think was a factory fitted optional extra and is made by Oettinger

I saw a stock bora with a spoiler parked in ippy on someones drive earlier  :undecided: (while I was lost somewhere lol)

seen quite a few bora's with spoilers down here. each to there own, i like the no-spoiler look.

its a very nice car bud, wheel refurb and if you can find a badged grill thats not chrome, then sweet!

:)

Ah sweet :) Cheers for the comment :)

I saw a few Boras on my way to Ipswich, weirdly I smile when I see a Bora because it's rare to see another Bora on the road, see way too many Mk4's though

cheeky sod!

It's on coilovers now.. the front tyres hit the arches on every bump, corner, or roundabout. And the o/s driveshaft hits the anti rollbar when turning right. I'm planning on fitting 215/35's and adjustable droplinks which will give me an extra 15mm clearance meaning it'll be going an extra 15mm lower but that'll be my limit. I work on cars all day, cba to fix my own car when I come home from work!

As above mate:

215/35 tyres
Adjustable droplinks
Poss 5mm rear spacers

I've bought dark wood dash trims off ebay to replace my light wood dash trims. Everyone goes carbon/net optic/brushed ali so I decided to be different.
I'm after either Black/grey Recaro interior or black leather Recaro interior and got a mint leather steering wheel from work

Not bothering too much if I'm honest. Just want a well stanced daily!
