i have a mk3 16v which needed its insurance renewed last mth. the cheapest insurance company's i found were directline and tesco insurance, u can find there details in the yellow page or on the net.
i got full comp at Tesco for ?460 where as most other companys were quoting ?700 - ?800.
Heres a few tips though when phoning around to get cheaper insurance:
1. if they ask what has been your best quote so far lie!. if your best quote was ?1000, say it was ?925 etc. if they beat it (say they quote ?910), phone another company and do the same again, quoting ?900 as your best quote.
2. when u have been quoted and they say the excess is ?150 ask how much it would be with a excess of ?300, they will usually lower the quote even more!.
3. limit your miles, if you do about 12,000miles per year you pay more than if you do only 8,000 for example.
4. Make sure you have a Cat1 security system fitted.
5. Dont put any other driver on your policy as this will increase your premium.
6. Tell them your car will be parked on your drive way or better still in the garage even if its gona be on the road outside your house.
7. Tell them you dont smoke even if you do.
8. Say the car is completely standard!
9. because of your age, getting a advanced driving licence will lower your premium as well, i think insurance companys usually give u an extra years NCB if u have 1.
10. dont get RAC or AA cover on your policy if they offer it as i have found you get about ?100 off the quote without it.
Hope this Helps!
