mk1 - I checked my tappets the weekend and I have hydraulic tappets on my cab... but my older cab has bucket and shims.... so not all Mk1's are bucket and shims.... be interesting to know what year this changed?

I thought the campaigns had hydraulic lifters. My 1983 cabriolet (DX engine) certainly has. Maybe it was around 1981/1982 when the rear lights and dash were updated :undecided:

Updated information from http://cabby-info.com/engine.htm

Solid/mechanical lifters were installed up to 1987;
hydraulic lifters installed from 1988 onward.

I get the feeling that if we truly looked at our cars - I'm not sure if the above would be true.... too many cars have gone through upgrades or engine swops. Thought I would share anyhow!

Pretty much what I did, had a bit of a tidy up in here when I was doing mine.  What are you doing to it then?
