Just to let all 2006 Golf owners know I have found and cured the annoying rattle that has plagued me this past year! It was the boot lid near side light. When I removed it and shook it, the noise was within. I then separated the lens from the housing and applied 'Tek 7' silicone around the connecting slots. After a half hour I put all the parts together and took the vehicle for a drive down a B road. Perfect silence!
Not sure how this problem developed but I know of a man with a similar car who was convinced that the fault lay in the shocks so he had them replaced only to discover the noise still there!
