« on: 13 November 2008, 15:07 »
For a golf gti on my mums insurance is coming out at 2500?,does that sound right for a first time driver? bearing in mind im being quoted 2300 on 1 litre corsa, so i thought i may aswell pay the extra 200 for a GTI

Thanks.

what you are doing is basically illegal if this is your car :lipsrsealed:

God forbid if you have an accident  :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

and no, I doubt very much if there is only £200 difference from ANY corsa to a GTI

I would get your own insurance mate you aint gonna get any ncb by using your mums policy and thats whats gonna save you alot of money in the future.

If its illegal why do people still do it and why do insurance companys still allow it?

Guess you're added an additional driver, so not the main driver (would be your mum) but I suspect you'll be the one putting most miles on.  Probably not totally illegal, but if you had an accident they could throw the book at you and you could end not being covered for any damages to your car or yourself.

all down to YOUR ( or your mums ) declaration

For example

is it your car ??? -

who is the registered owner ???

who will be the main driver ????

if you say your mum to these when it is infact your car, and you will be the main driver, then you are breaking the law.

Very difficult for the insurance companies to prove, but if they smell a rat, they will do anything to get out of paying if you are unfortunate enough to have to claim

try getting a quote with you mum as a named driver, I am am both my daughters policies now as it reduces them down by a LARGE amount.

My mum will be the legal owner of it.
Her name on the DVLA all the rest of it.
But i will be driving it most of the time.

But ive heard you cant have no claims on 2 vehicles at once, and i dont fancy sharing with my mum as i will need it at the same time as her.
