open face = crash = mashed face.

A bike lid should be fine unless you are competing / racing.

I'm hardly a pretty boy to start with, ha ha.

Most of the rallye guys use open face helmets though, anyone know why?

Far better visibility with an open face lid.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

That's what I thought, plus I wear specs so I thought an open face might be more comfortable with them on.

I have open-face - HATE full-face with a vengence.

DannyP has this: http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p5669/SPARCO-CLUB-OPEN-FACE-HELMET/product_info.html

Which is very reasonable.

I have this: http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p5665/SPARCO-PRO-JET-SILVER/product_info.html

Which I found a slightly better fit AND it has fireproof lining, although if the lining in my helmet is melting I'm probably pretty screwed.  It means if I want to do MSA events after this year, I can (you know, sprints and the like ).

Massively recommended comfy lids IMO.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I have a OMP Jet Axis one from eBay, was the cheapest around and has all the necessary safety ratings.  Nice and comfy.  Something like £65 delivered at the time.  You want to make sure it's of standard BS6658-85 Type A.  That's the reason some bike helmets are frowned at, but most are OK.

Just came across this (don't worry, I don't work for them or anything!):

www.online.print2net.co.uk/?id=Motorsport_Clearance_flier&page=2&utm_source=13.05.09&utm_medium=MotorSportEmails&utm_campaign=ClearanceCatalogue

Might find some helmet bargains in there (if you're a pin-head - XS?!).

Rally boys use open face for a few reasons but mostly because they spend most the time looking out of the side windows so need a larger field vision.

I've got a Bell full face which has a visor and a sunstrip that you can interchange, they are pricey though and mine has a HANS device as I use it for competition. You won't need all the FIA gubbins but if you can stretch to one I highly recommend them. Soo comfy and fit really well.

For track days I would get a full face and replace the visor with a sun strip so you don't get double glare off the windscreen and visor. Even in a caged stripped race car you can still get hit in the face by debris, in a road/track car, although unlikely the risk is there. You only get one head.
