Might have snapped nearer bottom so not visable at top and still seemed tensioner, did AA guy attempt to crank it by hand?

On my Passat the belt itself didn't go, but a load of the teeth came off and got thrown into the engine, so on a basic visual inspection it looked ok.

No jordy, didnt try to crank it by hand? Is that what i should try 1st?

What are my options?

1. Buy new valves, cambelt kit and get head rebuilt.

2 Buy 2nd hand head and new kit and go from there.

3. Break it and see what i can get for it?

Really dont wanna do 3 but need to be realistic.

99 Agu with 86k miles, thought that belt got changed at 60k. Have reciept for 'drive belt'..

30k should still be covered by warranty, if it was less than 4 year ago, you 'might' be able to claim to get the engine fixed, i assume you got parts from vw?

Wasnt done by me, was done by a garage in London by previous owner. Was 'drivebelt' on invoice, no idea if gen parts or not. Dont think i will have any come back from that.

On a good note, pick my new wheels up on wednesday

If i get new head, need;

2nd hand head
Cambelt, tensioner, waterpump
Head gasket + kit
Change mainfolds over
Change cams over
New head bolts.

That everything?

there is a silver lining if you do need to change the heads over, you can change your turbo at the same time

id still ring the garage to see if there was any guarantee, worth a try, how long ago was it done? no harm in ringing up and asking
