Title: Mk4 GTi starting issue
Post by: DAR400 on 18 April 2020, 17:40
Hi there,

My 2001 Gti 1.8 20v has suddenly decided not to start !its done 58,500mls and has been faultless until now.

I reversed it out of the garage, it was outside for an hour and then came to start it to put it back in , no go!
the car cranks over well but did not fire, I have checked the fuel pump was priming, I can hear the relay clicking when the fuel pump primes, I have removed the fuel line that connects to the injector rail and fuel is pumping through ok.
what should I look at next ???

Ta

It might do but it's two seconds to check the cover has two tabs 1 on either side at top and just move it slightly back take a peek

Mk4s are like that sometimes temperamental if you're keeping the car invest in a cheap code reader or Chinese vcds

Yes and those code readers won’t do much more than read and clear fault codes a cheap version of vcds will let you do that and more

can you point in the right direction for a VCDS please, not sure I'm looking in the right place as the ones Ive found from Ross-Tech are £300-400
