My Insurance buying experiences...
« on: 16 December 2006, 13:27 »
Mods, if this thread shouldnt be posted and you just want this kind of thing in the insurance comparison thread, please delete it.
Nige.

As the golf is due to arrive next week, I`ve been ringing round trying to get a competitive insurance quote. Obviously, with it being modified and with a cage, it limits you to specialist insurers, but I thought i`d share my findings with you as it may save you spending as long on the phone as I had to this morning..

Rang Greenlight first 01277 263 030

They quoted me £360, that was using my existing full NCD, but I had to transfer the Mazda policy to them for them to be able to take my full NCD into account. Out of interest, they were £40 more than I currently pay for the Mazda..

next stop was Brentacre Insurance, on 01792 650933. They came back at £430, any mods and didnt need me to move the Mazda. They work on a `power` range, so up to 150 bhp is £430 (In this example), up to 170bhp is another £70 and so on. They are very flexible regarding mods and so long as you let them know, they seem to cover everything.

Final stop, as found on here, was the insurer HIC 08451 291 291. Ask to speak to Martin. He was very helpful, he is a member of this forum and if you are a member, you get 10% off  . He insured the golf as a classic car (its over 15 years old), limited 6000 miles per year. Doesnt need my mazda insurance moving, HAS FREE TRACK DAY COVER included (not really applicable to me, but may be for those of you with more valuable cars...), although it has a huge excess £1000, and covered every mod no problem. you can also get an agreed value cover for another £15. Their premium was £295, fully comp for the year, excess £145 , which in my eyes is a cracking deal.

I`m very pleased and i`ll be going with them.

Nige.

Hagerty Insurance at Silverstone have just insured my Mark 1 GTi Golf for £149.20 fully comprehensive with agreed value and with all mods listed and agreed and track day cover per event of 10% of the premium, thus each time I am on track it costs me just £14.92. £250 excess for road and/or track.

I did try HIC and whilst they were extremnely pleasant and helpful the excess put me off big style, plus the premium was twice as much as Hagerty. I can alos have my son on this policy without any extra premium whoich I couldnt do with HIC.

All horses for course but this is my experience, for what its worth!

Go to that Supermarket .com

That does all the hassle for you in finding the cheapest quote. I saved over £100 this year by doing it!

the £1000xs is what one of our underwriters applies for trackday use. the standard policy excess on the road would have been much lower.
