Title: golf mk3 stalling
Post by: ronh on 23 February 2003, 23:47
Anybody having problems with the tick over , stalling when slowing down.try cleaning out the throttle body my engine is the agg one, this has cured my problems and it only takes about an hour to do, its quite simple too.And it save replacing it which is quite expensive.
The throttle butterfly gets clogged up with carbon so that it does not seal so causing an irregular tick over.

YOU dont say what engine you have fitted ie agg or other, if its an agg its very simple to do and is worth a try

I had the same problem, with additional lack of power on the motorway - dipping the loud pedal in 5th at 60 didn't do much!  Getting the throttle body cleaned out seems to have sorted it!

I'm a bit crap so i took it to the VW stealership.

charged me ?40 tho which was a bit of a barg.

well worth it. on a side note, because i didnt know what it was i blagged a courtesy car coz i thought they might have it all day.

offered me a Sharan (no thank you) and so waited until a golf was in. They took me out to it. bog standard looking. drove it - Bl****y quick. turns out it was a mk4 golf gti pd 130. dull inside. dull outside. very quick in gear.

did you know if you stay in the turbo all the time even on a diesel you can only get 24 mpg? I do now. good fun tho and suprised the guy in the type r when i dropped the loud pedal at 50mph on the dual carriageway. Eat scummy sulphur civic boy......
