Hullavington again 23rd May
« on: 27 May 2008, 18:47 »
Took the Golf to Hullavington again last Friday. We got out on the track 9 times and had no major mechanical issues. The engine breather hose split half way through the day but it didn't seem to make any difference apart from a bit of oil spray. Finished off the rear tyres in the morning and made a good job of finishing off the fronts in the afternoon.
The front tyres were tucking in a fair bit and we were getting a good amount of side wall wear so I will need to experiment with higher tyre pressures for the front, joys of going a lot faster around the corners.
There was only about half the normal participants so plenty of room and time on the track, a lot were new to trackdays so we had plenty of session time without having to move over to let the faster cars past, in fact it was the reverse and we were overtaking plenty of faster cars like Scoobies and Elises for a change.
The fan switch worked ok and cooled the engine down nicely when we came off the track.
Got a st/st decat pipe to put on before the next outing so will be able to see if this makes any improvement.
Next outing is at the Retro and sportscar action day at Castle Combe in mid June and a full trackday at Castle Combe towards the end of June.

Cheers

Paul
