Different keys for doors and ignition
« on: 08 February 2018, 15:05 »
Hi,

My Mk4 GTi has two different keys - one for the doors and one for the ignition. Evidently in previous ownership the locking mechanism stopped working and it was considered easier to replace with a new system (and new key) rather than fixing what was there, hence there are now two different keys.

It's not the biggest issue in the world, but obviously I'd prefer to just have one key that works for both. My question is what is the easiest/cheapest way of achieving this?

I assume I will need to either get new lock mechanisms for the door or a new ignition, but in either case how do I go about getting the existing key to fit the new part? Is this something that I need a VAG dealer to do for me?

Many thanks.

I've got a set of locks and a key (driver's door, boot and ignition) I'd part way with for a reasonable amount of paper with the queen's face on.
