Short for 'average'.

Or 'avantgarde'. One of the two.

It's the blood group 

All VW's have green blood,dragon green i'm guessing 

Avantegarde is colour coded body trim ,leather handbrake with chrome button,colour coded roof etc ,not a lot of difference than the next model down apart from insurance cost for some reason.

2 litres had agg or aba engine,the 1.6 is better than the 1.8 power wise , auto's are unreliable in all models lol
