Tez's Tornado Red Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk4
« on: 05 February 2015, 15:17 »
After hours of trawling through the classifieds on Autotrader, Pistonheads, eBay and Gumtree, I found the car I have been looking for ever since I started looking at first cars and mk4's. It was exactly the spec I wanted it in. I found the advert on Gumtree and went to see it as soon as I could. The car was in Nottingham, so it was a 6 hour round trip but well and truly worth it although my dad drove it home, I still followed it back not being able to take the grin off my face the whole way home

The car : It has Full service history with only 2 owners ( the last owner had it for 10 years ).It's a 2003 Volkswagen Golf MKIV GTi 1.8 Turbo (AUQ - 6 speed gear box and 180 BHP) in 3 door, finished in Tornado red and had only 74,500 miles on the clock when I bought it, it now has 84,500 miles on it.

This is my fourth car and third GTI : 2003 Volkswagen Golf GTI mk4 1.8 Turbo (AUQ) in LY3D Tornado Red ( Current car )

This is how the car looked when I bought it back in August 2013.

It came with the following modifications:

Oettinger grill
Audi RS4 V1 reps
Pioneer 6X9's in the parcel shelf
Lowered springs (70/80mm?)
Factory tinted windows

Since I bought it I have added/done the following things:

BBS Montreal 2's in gloss black with Goodyear winter tyres all round.
Heated Recaro leather seats. (Heated seat switches have been bought and wiring loom is yet to be bought)
Pioneer MVH head unit
Pioneer speakers for the front
Dubmeister pressed plates (For original and private plates)
UK-Mkivs.net Number plate surrounds
Black grill in LC9Z Black magic pearl
Illuminated Bora vents
Cubby hole fitted
Removed front and rear mudflaps

Tornado red makes any Golf look amazing. Nice ride man, the addition of coilovers, roll bars and a full polybush kit will transform the car beyond belief.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Thank-you, red is my favourite colour, so the car had to be Tornado red  I can't wait, I really hope so

I'm running Bilstien B14 coilovers, H&R anti roll bars and fully SuperPro bushed (minus ball joints) and it's completely different to drive from stock. It's weird, running coilovers on their own made the ride a little worse but now I've got the roll bars and bushes the ride is actually better than OEM but it's in the corners that it's a world apart.

Can't wait to get all the suspension, brakes and chassis sorted :) So excited for it! Would you recommend the B14's then?

It's been a while but I am back! I haven't updated this because I have been at uni and I haven't been anywhere or done anything with the car. In March I took her down to London (Kingston upon thames, Kingston University). And I have taken the opportunity to go everywhere in her, into central London, to Heathrow and Gatwick airport, and the majority of the London VAG meets, including, Krispy Kreme, West End Dubs, Cobham, VAG night at Ace Cafe, and the Club GTI meets. I also attended Ultimate Dubs again this year which was really good again but they definitely need a bigger venue for it.

As far as modifications go, I've fitted the B5 RS4 wheels (From an early S3/TT so still 5x100), US spec rears and leather armrest. I also debaged the car and used all the new Meguiars cleaning/detailing products to give her the full monty ( Polish, wax, tyre dressing, the lot).

Here is how she looked after a month or so without a wash:

And here are the pictures I took this morning, after spending all bank holiday monday cleaning her  :)

Some nice beading going on, even after a drive:

And here's my leather recaros and armrest  :D

Things to do next:

MK5 rear wiper,
4 motion front and rear valance
25th Anniversary grill badge
Short aerial
Spacers
New front number plate surround
Register private plate (TEZ 575)
Milltek Sports Exhaust
R-Tech Stage 1 remap
Coilovers/Lower springs

I finish my exams on the 14th of May so hopefully after that I will get a summer job and sell a few parts and bits and then I should be able to get most of these done over the next couple of months  :D

I'm now back home in the North West of England  :) Since I have been home, I've had a full 25th Anniversary headliner fitted with 25th Anniversary seat belts. Huge thanks to @PokerProTDI150  :Y:

Those seats look amazing, I was going to source S3 fronts for my mk4 V5 but if these are standard mk4 Golf leather seats then I'll source a set of them instead.
