New (to be) Mk3 16v Gti Owner
« on: 17 May 2017, 01:25 »
Hello all,
Quick intro,
Name's Ian, Live North Scotland, lifelong VW fan (had 3 Dub's so far) here for hints and tips, collecting a nice unmolested blue '97 Mk3 16v Gti with 105k in a few weeks.

I plan to keep the car in its completely original (and hopefully reliable!) state. I will be fitting a roof rack to attach my bike racks to, I am a competitive mountain biker so can't live without them!

It has got a stainless exhaust fitted, but its completely untouched otherwise.

Would love to say I'd be going to meets and shows but unfortunately my passion for racing bikes overshadows that.

Few rust spots need addressing, needs a new driver side fog glass, gear linkage feels very worn and loose, the brakes & wheels need refurbishing and sunroof opens up but not backwards. Also the tray on the right side of the driver seat has broken off, unless I can find a replacement I will zip tie repair it! My bro is a part time fabricator so will sort the rusty bits for me. Any tips on the above would be greatly appreciated!

Once I get some photo's uploaded I will link them in here.

Stoked to be getting back involved with an older VeeDub!

Cheers.
