Anyone know if it is OK to temporarily fit 17" wheels to an 07 GTi while its 18" are being refurbed?

If the tyre size is right.
So if 18s are 225/40/18 you need 225/45/17 to keep the rolling cercumfrance right.
Might have to reset tyre pressure moniters.

Yeah you can, as long as tyre size is ok (as above), offset is reasonable.
17" will clear mk5 brake calipers (even on the mk7 17" will fit unless it's a PP or R).
