Title: mk 4 4 motion or mk 3 vr6 engine conversion for Mk 2
Post by: novice1976 on 16 April 2017, 20:57
Hi all
Just wanted to ask which people think  is better/easier. I have a vr6 lump I believe early obd1 out of a mk 3 with  most things needed to put in a mk2.Unfortunately I picked up a 4 motion with 77000 miles on a 51 plate very cheap and it has given me a problem which one to use. one is 174 ish bhp and one 204 bhp but does extra horse power give extra problems fitting and getting running or does the engine management make things a lot better than the mk3 vr6.
Any help would be great cheers Rob
ps I wont put Haldex in as this is beyond my limited knowledge.

Ife use the mk4 engine. Mk3 everything else.
Youll have to splice the mk4 loom to the mk3 or mk2 loom.
Not 100 percent sure on if the mk4 engine will run on the mk3 management though so cant help with that

There technically the same engine. But the mk4 has a better managment and more sensors.
This is why i dont k ow if the mk3 stuff will run the mk4 as im not sure if theres vvt or things on the mk4 4mo

I'd be pushing more for the 4motion engine as I've heard many a bad press about the early vr6 engines. If you had a later type vr6 I'd be pushing you towards that, but as you don't have that option ist the 4motion vote from me!

May of been too quick to buy 4motion but it was cheap. Later Mk 3 vr6 sounds more straight forward but never mind ill crack on and start planning 4 motion swap.
Thanks for feedback cheers Rob
