Ctek 5.0 charger recon mode ?
« on: 30 March 2020, 13:21 »
As I won’t be using the car for a while I thought I’d hook up the charger to charge the battery.
Does anyone ever use recon mode that is supposed to move around the acid to prolong the battery life once a year?

Also do you use normal mode or agm ?

Thanks

As I haven't used the car for 2 weeks, and it could be a while yet, I hooked my TCR up to the CTEK MX5. It automatically switched to normal battery programme(car symbol) and AGM, at level 3. Pressing the Mode switch made no difference.  Just checked it and it's sitting at 7 (float) so good news.

My battery is an EFB, investigation Says to charge on normal.
Only concern is recond charges at a higher rate to do its job and some forums say it can damage the electrics unless you disconnect the battery which I don’t fancy doing.

For future reference. Finally heard back from ctek and they say it’s fine to recond a EFB battery while it’s connected to the car.

Assuming the battery is in good condition, does anyone know how long the car can stand unused before we get problems?

Tough one as every battery’s life is different. A few owners have had Vw batteries replaced very early in their life.
I’m going to start my car every 4-5 days and get it up to temperature and move it to stop rust on the discs which can cause problems down the road. I have a very long private drive 😂

I've just left mine locked but in reverse with the hand brake off.

I’m do this too but I’ve seen cars with built up rust on the discs and the discs never cover. It’s probably after sitting in the rain for 6 months but I am a bit ocd.
