replacing a u.j. on a mk2/mk3 help

mate has a MK2 vr6 with mk3 subframe.
i need to replace the universal joint on it do i need to drop the
subframe to do it?

I am doing the same part at the moment on my mk2 vr you can do it without dropping the subframe
but its a bit tricky I undid the bolt holding the uj onto the rack and a bolt inside the car and used a flat screw driver
to lever it up on the rack

just make sure you line the hole up spot on with the spline

if the engines out i would drop the frame slightly my engines in could not be bothered taking it back out

cool thats wot i was thinking. the new u.j. i have is in two parts with a nut and bolt
going though the middle. with the nut and bolt out it may go in better (it will be shorter).
it a vw one off a passat vr6 (as was the steering rack). will be trying to get this done
tomorrow for gti fest on sunday.

done it today took a hour and a half.
i undone the steering column made it alot easier  :smiley:
