How do you Remove driveshaft from hub? mk4 golf
« on: 19 June 2011, 21:20 »
trying to remove my driveshaft from the hub but doesnt want to budge.
i've taken the track end rod out, undone the 3 13mm nuts under on the wishbone and pulled the wishbone away from the lower ball joint, but the driveshaft in stuck tight in the hub. anyone knows how you get it out?
i've tried knocking the driveshaft back with a hammer where the driveshaft threads are and knocked the back of the hub too with a hammer but still no luck.

anyone knows how it'll come out? thanks.....

Other than what you've already done...

Have you remove the 30mm multispline socket holding drivehaft into Hub?

Remove that then pull, should pop out, if not its stuck in, you need a hammer and punch, Put punch in centre dimple of driveshaft and hit it out.

Job done.

have you un done the nuts at the gearbox end?this will allow you more play to get it out.Plus you may have to hit very hard if its knackered the splines in the hub.

is it possible the splines have jumped in the wheel bearing? as the car has had a knock on that wheel?

if i took the driveshaft off the box end by undoing the 8mm triple square bolts will i have gearbox oil coming out?

whats the best way taking it off the driveshaft  if the splines have jumped in the hub? G-clamp maybe???

Pull the hub toward you and hit the driveshaft away. Preferably with a copper hammer or punch in the centre of the driveshaft so you dont damage the threads.
Sometimes there quite tight but should always come out.
