Title: Active info display & polarised lenses
Post by: st332 on 14 September 2017, 10:18
I'm picking up my GTI next week and was wondering is there any issue with the Active Info Display and polarised lenses.
I have a fairly old Passat at the moment and I can't see the display for the radio when wearing polarised lenses.
They also affect viewing tablets/phones etc - usually portrait works but landscape doesn't, or vice versa.

Has anyone noticed this issue with the display on the Mk 7.5?
Was looking to pick up a new pair of shades while travelling this weekend and don't want to get a decent pair only to find they are can't be used behind the wheel because I can't see any of the controls.

I haven't had a problem, nor on the iPhone, on my old car I had a parrot cat kit and had problem with the screen on that

No it won't be an issue.
That used to be a problem for sure on older cars. I remember I wasn't able to see the climate control temps on my MK5 GTI if I angled my head a certain way  Those displays used old-tech LCD, the same as you'd see in an old Casio watch.

There is no such issue with the radios / climate control display in the new cars.

I think it depends on the polarisation on the glasses. I can get it with some displays with a pair of polarised Oakleys but you need to tilt your head at strange angles for it to happen. I've not come across an issue where something was unreadable when your head was in a normal resting position. I can't comment on the AID as I haven't got a car with it yet!

Good to know - should be OK then!

I've probably used two or three different type of polarised sunglasses and no problems here.
