Thanks JV.

Right the Valver was written off last June thanks to some Knob in a Range Rover deciding he didn't do stopping for red lights at 40, and ploughed into the back of the bloke behind me, who smashed into me and so on, causing a 5 car smash up.
I'm now the proud owner of a Classic Green VR6 that I'm not so proud to be seen in! It needs alot of work!  Its badged as a Storm, but was registered in Feb 95, whereas Storms should be registered from May 95 onwards. It was owned by the dealer first, so I'm gonna phone VW in MK as they have the records, but I'm not counting on it.

Got it for a reasonable price, so I'm just beginning to get it cleaned up to see where it truly is. Bodywork has a few dings and lots of scuffs, as well as a small amount of rust. Few bits of lacquer peel too. Interior has been absolutely butchered to fit a stupid sound system, leather on the bolster is knackered, and the wiring is the worst I've ever come across! Remnants of three old alarm systems just snipped out and bare and exposed cable left everywhere, sound system was twisted wire left exposed to short itself on everything! and the engine doesn't turn off when the lights are on - And only half of them work! Wheels are in desperate need of refirb, and the rocker gasket is pissing oil. It was dickhead low, so the sump is smashed to bits too. Passanger heated seat doesn't work, and ABS light display plug has been mashed up so I don't even know where that is yet. Calipers have been painted by what looks like a 4 year old, with paint all over the pads and slider pin boots, so they also need a refirb.

On the plus side, it had Chains, Guides and Tensioners changed 9 months ago at a cost of £970! (didn't pay too much more than this alone) and it drives really well!

It's a project, so its at the work car club where I have access to a Four post lift. I'm taking it slowly, and trying not to rush into buys for it. Hopefully have it on the road in a few months once its actually road legal! Even though it has MOT and Tax for a few months yet. Will bang up some pics later when I get back from protecting what little paintwork is in good condition.

Its then onto the wiring before starting on mechanicals and aesthetics.

Ok finished the detailing today. Paintwork was absolutely shocking before! Probably the worst I've done! The previous owner lived in the Big Smog, and it really told! It was like running your hand over 600 grit sand paper before, with serious oxidisation all over the bodywork, especially the roof and bonnet. After the prep stages it was cut back with 3M Fast Cut Plus and a Yellow 3M pad, followed by Ultrafina on a Blue pad. Waxed with Collinite 476s then dressed. Interior was removed last week and cleaned with BH Surfex, then leather treated and fed with Gliptone.

Typical military motorclub, chock full of worthless sheds!

Excluding the Raddo of course.

FYI I will be breaking my VR Corrado in the next few weeks, if there is anything you need let me know and I'll see what I've got.

Cheers Lewy!

What colour is it? Let me know when you begin as I'd certainly be interested in a few bits in a couple of weeks time (when funds permit). Cheers!

Bit of an update. Got a few jobs done, as MOT ran out last week. Its booked in for Saturday morning, but I'm not overly confident it'll pass as the ABS Light/display has been butchered in the past, and doesn't work. ABS is fully working though, as tested by VCDS, and stamping on the brakes at 35mph!

First up was changing the heater matrix. Since I'd taken the rest of the interior out, and needed to sort out the abomination that was the dash/ignition wiring, I thought I may as well. Turns out it had been changed previously (matrix taken out was stamped as manufactured in 08), but I'd already bought the new one, and wanted to sort the heater box out anyway.

All the interior went back in, and I now have heat control from the blowers.

Next it was safety!
Handbrake didn't hold. This was a combination of alot of things! I'll let the pics do the talking!

New cable, hose, pads, and caliper refirb kit all round. Fluid renewed and bled all round, and it now stops as well as it goes!

Work slowed down a little after this as I got a little delivery!

A bit of tooing and froing then it was back to work!

Inlet off and polished up and heat reflective tape put on the back, rocket gasket changed, stat and housing replaced, coolan flushed and changed, TB cleaned and stoopid HIDS removed!

I now know why I was getting random sloppy gear changes!
New bolt inserted and all is now well!

Did a compression test and cleaned the bay up. Results of compression test are within tolerance, without being great tbh.

Finally, a couple of tyres were near the limit, and the other two had cracking on the edge of the tread. I'm after a nice set of RX2s, or RCs in a few months time, so just needed something for the interim. These then came up for a price I simply couldn't refuse, all with tyres 6mm up.
Wheels were a bit grubby to begin with, but soon sorted them out!

Marks left over are corrosion, but not too fussed as they'll be flogged on once I get the solitudes refirbed, booted out, and have me a set of decent summers.

Couldn't resist giving the car a quick wash n wax whist at it though!

Ok its been quite a while since last update. Quite a bit has gone on although most are little bits and bobs here and there. Failed the MOT first time round due to the ABS problem, which was then resolved.............. I'll leave it at that - so a fresh ticket was issued! It was then time to start making the car look a bit less unloved. First off was some of the paintwork. There was a fair amount of lacquer peel, and lots of scuffs and scrapes on a lot of the bodywork. Cue rattle can, and it made a major improvement! I've since replaced the bonnet for a good used one as it was fairly noticeable due to the orange peel with it being such a large area. Here are some before and afters.

A really enjoyable day out for the Corrado Club GB 25th Anniversary National Day.

I had a slight oil leak which I thought was just a perished sump gasket. It was also leaking from the plug which had been scraped to death from when it was stupid low. Got myself a new sump and set about sorting it all, before finding a bit of a problem.

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/seanlethaby/20130708_104509_zps306a65c0.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/seanlethaby/media/20130708_104509_zps306a65c0.jpg.html)

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/seanlethaby/20130708_102536_zps92c69997.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/seanlethaby/media/20130708_102536_zps92c69997.jpg.html)

And that boys and girls, is why you shouldnt run dick head low!

Oil pump and sump replaced, but there was still a leak. This was evident when putting the sump back on, as it had obviously been off before, and whoever put it back on had cross threaded the three bolts up in the GB bellhousing, and one by the waterpump.  These had to be tapped out slightly larger and oversize bolts purchased.  Whilst I was in the bay, I decided to repaint the inlet manifold as I didn't really like the polished look. It wasn't done very well anyway, and I couldn't be arsed to keep on top of it constantly. I also replaced the aux tensioner bearing that was getting progressively louder.

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/seanlethaby/20130808_085544_zps63e307bb.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/seanlethaby/media/20130808_085544_zps63e307bb.jpg.html)

I didn't like the badgeless grille, so swapped that out for an original.

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/seanlethaby/20130802_153333_zps375e3b29.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/seanlethaby/media/20130802_153333_zps375e3b29.jpg.html)

It was then time to turn some attention to the interior. Obviously there was a big hole in the leather, and the foam was crumbling all over the carpet too. The lower bolster was also pretty worn and saggy. I was lucky enough to get a complete cloth interior reasonably locally for free, so set about stripping the passenger one down as a donor for my drivers side. Both upper and lower foams replaced and now very firm and supportive, and bolsters retrimmed locally with leather of similar texture. The whole interior still needs to be coloured, which I'll do with a furniture clinic kit in the next few weeks or so. Also replaced the steering wheel with one that didn't have a big hole where it had worn through.

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/seanlethaby/20130910_161718_zps54993f73.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/seanlethaby/media/20130910_161718_zps54993f73.jpg.html)

I've still got a few small bits to do to the interior, but its not urgent so I'll crack on with that a bit at a time. Exterior was still a little tatty, so a few bits to make it look a little nicer.
First of was a set of decent rims.

Trying to go with the OE+ theme, and the single piece RXs look like they could have come from the factory imo. That and the fact they're much cheaper that the splits!

New rear Corrado badge, original aerial purchased and fitted to replace the crappy shark fin, and as mentioned above, a replacement bonnet along with a set of wings.

Some more before and afters.

Thats pretty much it up to now. A replacement splitter is finally on the way now. I'm also hopefully picking up a breaker next weekend which has a few bits and pieces I'd like too.

Cheers smudge.
Radiator went pop after a stone managed to find its way through the slats in the grille on Saturday. that coupled with the tapped out sump bolts which didn't completely cure the oil leak from that area means I may as well pull the engine as its either lower chain cover or crank seal. Either way its GB out. Its also leaking from the oil cooler so I thought sod it, pull the engine and give it all a bit of a spuce up. I'll be replacing all the gaskets and seals whilst at it, and painting up the engine so it looks nice and fresh. New oil cooler and a few other bits whilst I'm at it. Its staying off the road now until the beginning of May, so I have chance to go over everything slow time. I'll do the interior whilst I'm at it, and probably chuck in a short shifter, gear linkage parts and engine mounts as well.  I've only managed an hour or so during a lunch break so this is how it stands. I'll update as I go along.
