Work carried out this week was a new outer cv boot, oil and filter change, new cam cover gasket, new throttle cable and a throttle body clean and mechanism stripdown.

I've never been 100% satisfied with the feel of the accelerator on this golf. Upon inspection of the cable I found it to be slightly frayed, and at the pedal end the rubber bush was split and the cable secured with a metal plate on the end of the hook, which hadn't done the rubber bush any good. A new cable and bush were purchased, and with the old cable off I had a feel of the throttle body mechanism and it wasn't great. I removed the TB and gave it a good clean inside, although it was surprisingly clean anyway. I then went about removing the throttle mechanism and cleaned each component before reassembling. It really has transformed the feel of it, throttle action is now much smoother and lighter, probably one of the most satisfying jobs I've done!

Just remembered a fairly big change that I carried out a couple of weeks ago. The Apex lowering springs have now been replaced by standard height springs from VW Heritage

The car did look very high at first but I don't mind it now, although that's probably due to a combination of the springs settling and me getting used to it.

Pics to follow.....

The rims on this car are so sweet. They look just fantastic with the black arches and darkened rear lights. Amen to another man who gives a sh!t about maintenance.
