Golf mk8 / Re: End of warranty?
« Last post by Carlosfandango on 25 March 2024, 22:20 »
How I wish I'd gone for the extended warranty!

Mine expired end of February.

2 weeks later, the bongs started again, worse than ever before, took it to the dealer and the replacement steering wheel has now failed again and needs another replacement at £545.00.

Because the part has previously been replaced, VW UK are doing a 70% 'goodwill contribution' with my dealer chipping in the remainder.

Fast forward another week and I'm getting 2 new front tyres fitted at a tyre centre then the fitter comes back in to reception and tells me I have a coolant leak at the water pump.

So I find my nearest VW dealership (working away from home) and they diagnose a leaking water pump/thermostat assembly.
That is being fitted tomorrow for the princely sum of £1150.

That warranty looks good value now and I'm kicking myself for not taking the option...

I thought the faulty/leaking thermostat housings were a thing of the past?! Surely they’re not still using the same part?

Golf mk8 / Is the hot hatch dead?
« Last post by MaggotsRus on 25 March 2024, 20:44 »
So always nice to throw something contentious into the mix. So having been on this forum for about two years, a mere apprentice by some of the standards of updates from those that post endless replies and at times essential guidance. But one common theme I’ve noticed is that many of the posts on this group are for failings of how the Mark 8 has faired or is doing. So having thought about this it appears that the Mark 8 has or is part of the downfall of the hot hatch. People have waited for long periods for their cars, on arrival some of those cars or earlier have had terrible warranty issues and poor build quality I think judging by the back up support those issues will persist and will be a huge cost implication for owners in the future. The prices now are falling despite what others think and the dealers / autotrader et al have stock that is simply not moving. So these are my thoughts having owned a 45 and other GTi’s beforehand is this hot hatch dead? ☠️ and will VW reinvigorate the loyal following to be convinced otherwise. Answers on the back of a postage stamp please 😉

Golf mk7 / Re: Mountune Cat Back Exhaust Experience

I've a Remus GPF back system (non res centre, sport back box) and it's great. Very high quality, no drone. Just don't get carbon fibre tips.

Golf mk7 / Mountune Cat Back Exhaust Experience
« Last post by Brad28T on 25 March 2024, 19:39 »
Hi all,

This is my first post here so hello to everybody.

Has anyone had any experience with the mountune exhaust for the mk7/7.5 GTI.

If you have is it intrusive while cruising? Is it too raspy and obnoxious?  Does anyone have any better suggestions for the money (about £1,000)

Thanks in advance for all of your replies.

Thanks for the reply fredgroves and BillSan.

My issue is random, and not specific to start up / or start of journeys. I've tried to keep a mental note of when they occur to see if i could spot a pattern but there's none. I will certainly try moving the steering wheel, i have noticed i seem to get more when turning but equally i can be cruising straight on the motorway and it will ping!

Yup me too, try pushing and pulling at about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions.

Mine got worse over time, guessing its some sort of connection wearing out or pulling loose.

It got so bad in the end that it was almost constant bonging as I drove along.

As I said, any and every VW dealer know all about it. Its not rare.

I only hope that the replacement wheel is an updated part and this isn't something that needs to be done every 2 years!!!

I had a very similar scenario. A WV dealership from which i had bought probably 6 new GTI and GTD s just were not interested in fixing  the multiple bongs i was getting every day for about two years. I asked them initially to do a software update, the reply was your not down for  one. I asked them for a replacement engine cover. The reply was "you dont need one, it will run fine without"
Then i went to another dealer who i had dealt with years ago. Nothing too much trouble. A engine cover was ordered and fitted within a week, along with the latest software update. Two weeks later a new steering wheel fitted. Since then no bongs.

I was very surprised they weren't willing to acknowledge the fault or even try the replacement steering wheel fix. I tried arguing my case in the dealership but it was a waste of time and i walked out as it was starting to become a bit of a scene and took the matter up with VW UK instead. It's currently being escalated to a customer relations manager but i'm not optimistic they will help me.

Golf mk2 / Mk2 conversion questions
« Last post by ditchyboy on 25 March 2024, 12:40 »
Hi,
Does anyone know much about a company called Kricket Customs? I believe they have ceased to operate now but i am looking at a mk2 with a 20vt conversion that was carried out by them including some forging works. I am not really sure what to look for or how to know if it is a decent job and the engine strong and good. I have seen some videos of it but havent travelled to see it yet as its quite a distance so trying to gain as much knowledge on it as possible.
It has only done approx 900 miles since the conversion which was completed back in summer 22 so it has been used only at weekends etc which is one way a good thing but also concerns me as it hasnt had a lot of time for things to arise and then be corrected.

Any initial thoughts on this would be great.

Many Thanks

Michael

As you'll see from this thread gtikel83 this is the most annoying issue with the Mk8 and I lived with bongs for 2 out of the 3 years I've had my car.

My issues have been fixed with a new steering wheel although it hasn't been the case for everyone.

I can't understand why they won't replace your steering wheel when your car is still under warranty.   It's not acceptable to say "it's not the the right code".   They need to fix the problem!!!!
