HI, I HAVE JUST SIGNED UP AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AS A GUEST AND I MUST SAY WHAT AN INFORMATIVE SITE.I OWN A 52 GOLF GTI AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A 180BHP MODEL. LOOKING ON OTHER SITES HOWEVER IT APPEARS THE 180 MDEL DIDN'T APPEAR UNTIL 03, IS THIS SO. THE ENGINE CODE BEGINS WITH AUQ.PLEASE HELP CHAPS

First off - welcome to the site. glad you enjoyed it enough to sign up, and I hope you continue to find it informative.
Secondly - I'm afraid I cant help with the query, but I hope it is what you expect it to be. I would certainly be a bit annoyed if it was anything less. I dont see why it cant be a 180 model - the engine was around then.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

had a bit of a google for teh engine code thing...

AUQ is a 180bhp one :)

couldnt find anything about it being in golfs though.. just in 00 model skoda octavias and a seat leon sport model thingy
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...
