« on: 10 March 2010, 15:05 »
Hello all,

What was the original spec (size, make, etc) that was fitted to the 8v GTI ('97)?

Were the 15" wheels std?

ta,

James
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

No idea. Tyres are tyres, as long as they're legal I don't care

and also 195/50/15.

I'd go for 195/50/15 as they are far cheaper than the 205/50/15 and they also look less ballooned up.

205/50/15 is the correct size for a 1997, 195/50/15's would have only been fitted on earlier cars.

IRRC my 1993 8v had Michelin Pilot Sports on (195/50/15) but then they want to 205/50/15 less grippy but longer life efforts.
Just all weather types.

The 1996 Anniversary GTIs were back on more high performance tyres - 215/40/16 Dunlop SP8000s I think - not great, but better than the longer life, less grippy GTI efforts.

They never came with what we'd consider 'summer' or 'ultra-high preformance' tyres. Only all weather performance tyres - but they weren't generic all season things either, as they were always fairly high speed rated - Vs I think on GTIs and Ws on Annis.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
