Ive got a sub sorted, now the speakers
« on: 25 December 2005, 18:40 »
Running a Mk2, I have just bought a CD HU, the wireing is another post for another day, and have got a JBL Active Sub to go in, ok its not the best, but its just waiting to go in. What I want to know is the best speakers (within a decent price) that will fit in the standard mounting in the front (dash) and the rear. Nothing to fancy but good. Due to me needing to remove the parcel shelf for some journeys mounting speakers in their are a no-no.

Cheers

IMO dont bother replacing the dash speakers I would go for some better components for the doors and then maybe some tweeters for where your dash speakers were. With this thought in mind I find alpine type r speakers to be very good affordable speakers. There is a lot of diff opinions about rear speakers i personally have 6x9s in the rear as my ears hear all around and I like the rear fill there a bit.

Not mounting them in doors, just leaving the dash speakers in place.

I sell GRP and Carbon Fibre for various cars and use my Golf as transport so the rear parcel shelf is removed alot of the times (fronts of Minis are quite big) so need to have the speakers in the back mounted in standard place, but the sub can stay where it is because most things fit over/around it.

So its just decent speakers to go in standard places

Cheers for advice anyway.

in which case for the dash fitment you're looking at 3 1/2", hope it helps

decent sound for that small IMO is nobody as they're so small, which is why i suggested getting better ones in the doors.

Not many people who make a speaker that size. When I had a mk 2 I looked into it and the best for not too much money at that time were JL speakers.

You can get them from here.... www.cel-direct.com

Go to speakers then custom fit. JL TR350-CX

you've got to mount mids in the doors if you want a proper sound in the front. 3.5" speakers aren't worth looking at realistically. Mount your tweeters there and get a larger speaker in the doors. 13cm's will go straight into post '88 mk2 door pockets with adaptors. 17cms will go with work or fork out for new door pods which will bolt directly to the door cards.

I'm not into decent sound for the Golf, so just after either standard or just abit better. Only reason the subs going in is because its their.

Cheers for speaker info so far.
