Title: CEL + Backfiring
Post by: Mk6_matty_b on 21 December 2020, 18:05
Ok so I've had my Mk6 GTi 2 years now and for the past year I've had my check engine light on and off along with the EPC light, I've gone through every possible fix, upgrade of coil packs, spark plugs, cam shaft sensor, yet it's still showing the check engine light, and backfiring quite alot! The car is still stock but due for a stage one this week!! I'm desperate for help here as I'm getting worried I have injector failure, I have had it plugged it, showing so many codes and faults including misfires across all 4 cylinders! Sooo I'm reaching out now for some advice and help!

Not easy to diagnose over the internet. You maybe better off taking it to a specialist and getting them to give it a look over.

Well I've had a code of p0172, so I've no clue what that means as I'm not to up on my mechanics or codes, I now been advised it's an air flow issue or the air flow mass sensor, and having a k&n air filter in it can throw out this sensor, how true this is I don't no either?? I'm getting more and more tempted to put it in a dealership it's just the cost as you can imagine!

Don't  use a dealer find a VW independent specialist in your area.
Oil from K&N can upset the MAF sensor.

Fault codes and possible causes can be found on the below link.
