Golf dilemma
« on: 19 September 2016, 10:00 »
Have had a number of VW over the years.
Last one was a lease car and a Golf 140bhp TDI Mk6. Liked it a lot.

Looking for a car for myself and and for the money I have to spend have narrowed down to 3 options.
Mk6 - GTI
Mk6 - GTD
Mk7 - 1.4 TSI (non GT ACT)

The heart says GTI but it just seems a lot of money for a 5/6 year old car.
Similar for a GTD but maybe a sensible option on fuel and as I really liked the TDI I know what I would be getting, only better.
The TSI while clearly a different proposition performance wise it would be 3 years younger than the others.
I drove a 1.6 diesel for a couple of weeks and was very impressed.

mileage wise doing at least 15k a year and want to keep it for 3/4 years.

While clearly it will come down to my own preferences any thoughts/experiences welcome.

When I choose cars to buy I have a rule. If it does average of 30mpg i can afford to run it. So to me a gti would be the option.
But like you say its your choice and there common problems that need to be adressed when buying these cars.
But if for eg on the gti the timing chain tensioner has been changed or engine replaced because of the failure it makes buying it easier as you know the problem is done
