We're definitely thinking along the same lines,  Murray.  Mk5 GT TDI's are my alternative choice to a Leon TDI FR.

my line of thort was a new shape Leon fr, but then thort the mk5 is cheaper and nicer inside. I did look at the mk1 fr but think I prefer the mk5, but now looking at the newer shape a3 as there the same money  eather way don't think il have my gti at the end of the year

Same horse, different jockey.  Although the Audi's seem to have well documented head gasket problems 

Look on Audi Sport for all the info on that as it tells you what part numbers to look for etc etc

Nope; just dodgy injectors (solved under recall) and DPF problems although thats because the sensors fail and people actually clog up the filters by driving as per the manual. With a knackered sensor though you are making things worse
