If anyone has opted for a new GTI in Shadow Blue, would you mind posting a picture of it. Thanks very much in anticipation.

Sorry not very good photos. The redish tinge on most of them is my stupid cameraphone. (1st 2 photos below i photoshopped it out)

Odd colour, Shadow blue. I had it on a company Passat a couple of years ago and it kind of looked okay on that, but I've always thought it looks wrong on the Golf - Mk5 or Mk6.
-
It does not photograph well thats for sure. You have to see it in the flesh in sunlight and shade to make your mind up if its for you or not its a very marmite colour.
I have found most old people like it but young don't.
My personal view is i find it makes the GTI look more upmarket, classy and understated.
Most people don't want that from a GTI so go for the red/white/black or one of the many shades of gray with a hint of colour.
-
I had Shadow Blue on a Golf Plus a few years ago. It looked nice in the brochure, but when I saw it I regretted my choice.
-
Is this shadow blue?

Is this shadow blue?
I'd say yes.
-
Hi Snoopy,
Thank you so much for posting the pictures. Totally agree with you that it is a Marmite colour. I happen to love it!!
Hard to say which colour is best: Shadow Blue, Black, or United Grey.
-
Is this shadow blue?
Yes.

The first dealer I went to showed me a Shadow Blue Passat, and it seemed very dark to me. This was confirmed by seeing the sample paint on display.
Of course the Blue Graphite is too dark for my taste too, but since they didn't have a lighter blue I thought it would be more subtle than the Shadow Blue.
In case anyone missed it, here it is again.

I saw a sports coupe this afternoon in a colour I would have killed for. Subtle sort of powder blue shade, but more medium than light. Very very nice.
Rolfe.

ANYONE got any photos of shadow blue with the optional Monza shadow 18 wheels?

Im not sure if this combo works or not :undecided:
-
Doesn't look quite right does it? The 4x4 suspension height doesn't help matters, not the fact that the photographer is too close to the car. It may look okay in daylight but I reckon the dark blue needs plain silver wheels, or maybe the polished and grey of Monza IIs(?)
-
i had shadow blue on a mk5 r32, it is a funny colour, sometimes it looks great in certain light conditions and sometimes it looks poor. I wish Vw done deep sea blue like audi, the S3 looks nice in that colour and i would spec my R in it aswell
-
Seen this colour fairly often on the mk5 gti and it does look nice... a little more classy in some respects when its clean, a little dull when dirty
-
I too have seen it regular on the mk5  Its one of the reasons i went for it, im just not sure the monza shadows work on it. I do like the monza II's on the mk5 in this colour, like the one below just not sure about the monza shadows :undecided:

there is a simple answer to your dilemma
get a black one
-
Blacks to common.
Im happy with the colour its just im not sure if the black of the monza shadows will work with it or not?
-
This combo just doesn't work at all for me. It looks like the owner bought a bog standard blue TDI and then tried to 'convert' it to a GTI by putting the wheels & grill on

A couple more shadow blue photos to add to the collection of this rare colour, I have kept them on this old thread so that they are all in the same place so easier to search for them.
This is an american spec model.

Im still not sure if the shiny black on the monza shadows clashes with the blue? :undecided:

Hey Snoopy
I initially ordered mine in shadow blue because I liked the contrast between the red brake calipers and the blue. I think when it catches the light it can look very classy but I started to have second thoughts after seeing a few of the pictures in this forum and seeing the colour on other golfs on the road.
In the end I changed the order last month to silver as I thought the monzas looked better and it'll hide the dirt a lot better. My currnent car is black and is a right pain to keep clean and I reckon my neighbours think I've got OCD because I'm forever cleaning it
-
In some lights the shadow blue looks good - in others, it just looks plain and boring. The problem we face in the UK is that it needs sunlight to sparkle, and we don't get much sunlight!! :nerd:
I don't think the Monza Shadows go very well because of the dark colours merging into each other. No contrast.

Old thread, new pics, nice colour.

That's a hotch-potch of colours that just doesn't work: blue, black, red, orange and chrome...
-
Snoopy:
Strange this: never thought the 18" Monza Shadows would not quite suite a Golf GTi in Shadow Blue.
Love the colour: truly fanatastic. Prefer it slightly to my Tornado Red! But it costs more.
Shadow Blue seems to be too rich a colour for the 18" Monza Shadows.
Golf R 18" (or 19") Talladega wheels may be the perfect ones for your Shadow Blue GTi.

You know what? The 18" Monza Shadows also look great with a Shadow Blue GTi!
Stop confusing me all of you!
